Task 4 Evaluations

 

My Personal Evaluation:

First of all I was quite satisfied with my overall work in my project. My initial idea was to collaborate with the NGO Repubblika and produce a poster in aid of Daphne Caruana Galizia that cosists of an event at the mediterrenean conference in Valletta. This talk would be about the memory of Daphne Caruana Galizia requiring justice and putting pressure on the alleged people that still have to be brought forward in court. In the beginning the first steps considered were to contact a member of Repubblika in order to understand better how they work when planning for an event such as protest and talks. The person that I contacted  was the executive chairman of Repubblika, Manuel Delia, where I asked him a set of questions on the NGO so that I can understand better how they plan and execute their work with the audience. He gave me very informative background about them, with one of their main themese is that the audience always believe what they are trying to say, so that Repubblika gain more audience power.

 

As a message theory , the poster can be categorized as negioated due to the fact that not everyone agrees with Repubblika, so there is a population who most of them agrees and other don’t with the message that Repubblika are trying to promote.

In the poster at the top of the it, I added the logo of Reppublika as I thought thagt it would make sense for the people to know who are the hosts of this event. The first picture at the top was chosen as I saw a very good contrast with Daphne’s face on the newspaper and the candles. As Maria also told me in the peer review, there is a that contrast that symbolises the journalists that are in danger like her because of doing what is right in their work. The date of the year was added to remember how much years have passed from her death. The bold text is another way that I thought would be significant to add as it catches the eye of the viewer as part of the rememberance. In the middle of the poster , I added the main focus of this event so that those interested would have an idea to what to expect. Undernaeth it, I added the pictures of the hosts of this event, which is important so that the audience will know who they will be talking to. Another dark picture of DCG was added so that the concept of sadness and murder dominates the whole aspect of the event. Also, it will brighten up the photos and the text written can be understood well from the viewer. At the bottom , there is all the information required so that the people interested will know the location of the place and from where to apply if interested to join this event. As part of the text medium, again there is another explanation of the event such as the location, time hosts and the original idea behind this talk.

In the peer reviews, Maria gave me some significant points so that these can be improved  in furthr projects. One of them was that the text was lacking colour and the original represantation of the Ngo. She told me that I should have added some sort of hashtags that shows Repubblika’s agenda and the portrayal of their message. She also told me that 2023 should have been removed from the poster because first of all it is in front of Daphne’s face and it is unecessary in this type of poster. In the end, she told me that overall it was a good project and it had all the necessary information needed to engage the audience to join.

 

Nicole also gave me some important points to improve in further poster works. Nicole told me that the poster had lots of text that some people can get lost when trying to understand the main goal of it. Also, she told me to avoid using Daphne’s face twice as there lots of photo in one picture. In difference to me, she would have added Robert Aquilina’s and Manuel Delia’s photos in the other half of the poster alone instead on the photo of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s mural. According to her, the text in the instagram post were engaing but she would have added some emojis and hashtags to give it a different perspective. Overall, she told me that the project was very appealing and engages the audience to participate in this event.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Evaluation Maria’s website:

So first of all, I like how the website is organized generally. One can see all the tabs that go to the web pages you're looking for by clicking on it. You can better comprehend how Moviment Graffiti's work is done by looking at the colors used on the website, which are based on a left-wing motto. They typically use the colors red and white in each poster they create. Due to the fact that they are all relevant when compared to other websites, every tab on the website makes sense. Press Releases, Graffiti's mission, donate, actions, and contact information are all included in these tabs.

I liked it a lot when recent protests or activities that they organized are included when you scroll down after these sections. The fact that all three of the posters have a red border, white lettering, and a black outline drew my attention. These different pieces continue to highlight their left-wing ideologies, and each poster or statement they produce also features the red star from their emblem. In the website, continue scrolling down to discover the original abortion-related poster who has a press release to support their position. The chosen shot of the women was the one with the most details that grabbed my attention.

The photo has a strong message underneath it , also with the inclusion of the maltese flag and it’s contrast with the Maltese Court. Soemthing that I would have done differently in the poster is that I would have changed the colour of the logo of the organistation or I would have eliminated it completely because in my opinion it is lost in the poster. Another idea was to place the logo in another place so that it can be seen clearly from the audience. The press statement here is well informed and it’s showing the Moviment’s Graffitti intention’s for the prime minister to push with the first proposal that was proposed in the media.

The written text continues to emphasize that the choice should always be on the women and not anyone else because she is the one that is going to be affected with this decision. The end of this statement highlights that Prime Minister Robert Abela should take immediate action becuase abortion is healthcare. After this statement I like the inclusion of the hashtags which symbolises their beliefs as an organisation overall.

 

Evaluation Nicole:

First of all, this video cleearly shows that the main theme for this project is on Xibka. It’s name project xibka clearly shows the understanding and principles behind this feature. First of all something that caught my attention immediately was the text “Project Xibka” that introduces the feature, then supported by clips of the xibka from these people that are doing this type of clean up. All the footage is based around this project and what you can expect when attending these types of projects. The voice over in my opinion is very good especially considering the fact Nicole is Maltese. It sound very professional and it looks like a foreigner is reading the script because of the good use of accent that she is using. In the beginning, she explains the basis of the project and what can we expect if we are interested to be part of this project.  Then she mentions the time and location of this activity and also from where we can apply to join. In this part something that I could have done different is that I would have mentioned the name of the link because if there are some people who doesn’t know how to apply or maybe doesn’t understand the English accent to the full will be limited to apply for this Project Xibka. Something that also caught my attention is that she mentioned recent activities that Zibel has made throughout the years. This can be inspring for people that were never part of Zibel project’s. Also, the voice over is always in sync with the footage used , which gives it a good dynamic and helps us understand better their work. Another thing that I would have done different is that when she is mentioning the location of this activity, I would have added a short still image of it so that the audience will know exacly what to expect and also what it will be achieved. The footage is based on the mediterranean waters where it is showing the organisation’s work and the people helping in this project. I would have varied the footage because it looks like it is all taken from the same activity , which in  my opinion makes it less intriguing compared to when any other water based footage is being used. Overall, I think it was a very good project and it has all the required information to urge the people to be part of this.
